Blogging Through The Snow
Hey, folks, sorry to have missed you all for a few days, but we’ve been dealing with a lot of snow here. It comes with living way up in the mountains. (I’ve included a picture of my back yard.)
Here’s a little ditty that’s been getting me through these cold days:
Blogging through the snow,
Making spirits bright.
Oh, what fun it is to go
Blogging through the night.Jingle bells, blogging’s swell
When it’s cold outside.
Power’s on, but not for long.
Keeping warm and dry.
Okay, it’s not that great, but the point is that I’ve been thinking about being here and posting something. It’s just that “real life” keeps getting in the way. Annoying, isn’t it?
Getting the kids to school is a problem now. Shoveling the deck, stairs, and walkways is hard work. (That’s why I have a nice cup of hot cocoa ready for them when they finish.
) The propane tank has to be kept filled, which costs way more than it should. Etc., etc., etc.
While I’ve been busy, the comments have piled up. That’s a really good thing, but now I have to catch up. There is something that I have to say, though, that I’ve been dreading:
Not Awards
I really appreciate my readers thinking of me, but it seems that a current trend running through many blogs is the tendency to give “awards” that are not really awards. I don’t want to alienate anyone, but an “award” that requires the “winner” to pass it along and link to numerous other sites is not an award; it’s a link exchange.
I believe that those who’ve given it to me (loislane26 and gamingtips ) are sincere in their offer and actually believe that they’re helping me, but I’m trying very hard to keep this site from becoming a link farm. I even edit comments that come with multiple links.
It’s an honor to have so many people comment here, and it’s a special honor that those who’ve offered this are ones who really believe that I deserve an award. I hope they’ll understand why I can’t accept it. I apologize, and I hope that they’ll continue to come here.
Reviews
On a more positive note, Kat (of Review Me TODAY!) has written a wonderful review of my site. (Like I’d actually mention it here if it was a bad one.)
Man In The Moon is a funny blog about “a lone man in a female world of flowers, chick flicks, periods, and puberty…” Every few days we get a new post on being a man in a woman’s world.

Youthmystique had this to say:
Found on loislane26’s site, youthmystique.
The blogger writes about what life is like being a man surrounded by females. I guess us girls can be a bit to handle sometimes so I can empathize with him. (Basically, during that “special” time of the month.)
I hope that this post finds you all well and not getting too overwhelmed by the winter weather. Take care.
Lesson Learned:
Stay on top of things or they’ll pile up on you.
Participate & Share:
If you enjoy the content here, then please subscribe to my feed or subscribe by email if you prefer. It would also be great if you could leave a comment and even Stumble this article if you really like it. By the way, you can also get paid to blog here just like I do.
Yeah, I stopped doing the pass the award thing, too, (after one, OK, I was a newbie). It was sweet, really, but I don’t want to spend my blogs that way. So I thank them and move on.
I live in Houston, so you’re getting snow for me too. Enjoy!
@stephanieebarr: I’ve counted about five or six of these pyramid system link exchange “awards” running through blogs recently. “Winning” these could quickly add up to that many posts with nothing but link lists. That’s not the content I want to deliver, nor is it the content my readers come here for. I just hope that I haven’t offended anyone.
By the way, c’mon out here and bring a shovel. You can have all the snow you want to take home.
Fantastic song. Can you add a verse about Today.com? Congrats on your top 10 spot.
Much Love,
@Mountain Woman: Thanks Mountain Woman, and welcome to my blog. Your pictures of Red Pine Mountain look like they could have been taken right around my house. I live in the mountains surrounded by national forests, lakes, trails, and some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet.
@cathycouey: The top ten spot is starting to fade as I get more distant from my last Stumble.
As for the song, let’s give it a shot:
Blogging for Today,
Checked my stats again.
Wish I knew celebrities.
Maybe I could win.
Oh, jingle bells, blogging well
Keeps me on the list.
I could use a Stumble soon.
I need an assist.
Nope, you’re welcome to keep it all. We had our second snowfall down here in the twenty years I’ve lived her and that’s MORE than enough for me. When I was in college, they asked me where I wanted to live. I said, “Somewhere warm.”
And I meant it
Try and keep warm thoughts, though. I don’t wish snow shoveling on anyone.
I’m in Houston also and am certainly enjoying the mild winter weather. “Cold” here is 30 degrees. I stuck my head out the door to look at the puny snow fall last week and went back inside to watch tv. I wasn’t impressed. The picture of your backyard is beautiful though. That’s as close as I want to get to snow.
About the awards– I’m glad Stephanie posted the award I passed to her. I agree the awards that require you to pass it on to several people seem more like a link exchange. I didn’t want to offend anyone by not participating so I passed it on. Since I’ve become more familiar with the process, I decided to use Saturdays (the one day I normally didn’t post) to mention “awards”. I’m not sure how long I’ll keep that up, but right now I feel that’s my way of compromising.
BTW, your stats are looking good. Top 10, baby!

No offense to your poem, my good man, but if you would like to read a “real” poem, and feel the sun on your face again while battling through your snow, please stop by for a visit today at careermysteries.today.com. And thanks for your entrecard drops. Therese
Combined with numerous public figures who have given mealy-mouthed mea culpas over the years, this post has inspired me to write Chaney’s 28th and 29th Rules of Media Relations. I’ll debut them here:
Don’t apologize. If you’ve done nothing wrong, stand your ground. If you have done something wrong, change your behavior. Deeds mean more than words anyway.
If you ever forced to apologize publicly, do so for what you did or said, not for other people’s reactions to it. “I apologize to anyone who I may have offended,” is weak. Carlos Mencia was right when he said your words don’t have power over others.
Yeah I second xzchief. If you mean what you say, stick to it. you have no control over how people will react.
I’d like to add you to my blog roll too!

Congrats on the “awards” and the revues. You deserve them, you have a great and funny place in the blogosphere.
Your writing has kind of coached me to write with a bit of humor on a subject that people usually take too seriously. I really appreciate your presence and the return drops via Entrecard. I am here every day

I’m wondering where all this snow is we’re supposed to be getting in Cleveland. We’ll probably get it all in February and March.
So I guess it won’t be a white Christmas here in Ohio. Woohoo!
I’ve also been “blogging through the snow” here in Vegas
Love your blog, it’s one of my favorites!
@Julia: That’s my worry. They can start stacking up really fast. That whole reCAPTCHA thing is getting downright eerie.
@bryan karl: Welcome, bryan. Glad you came by and stopped to comment. The Philippines, huh? So, what’s the wind chill factor there? 70 degrees? You guys aren’t breaking out the coats, are you?
@angelac: Hey, welcome, angelac. I love getting new people here. Let me know, by the way, if Vegas snow comes with its own glitter. It’s a little theory of mine.
@Aria’z Ink: I’m not in Truckee or Tahoe. I’m in the Klamath mountain range in Northern California. We just got more snow yesterday. The digging is an ongoing chore. Also, we have a cat in case the meat runs out.
I love yer lil’ ditty!

RECOVERY ROCKS!

@recoveryrocks: Thanks, Roxie. I always appreciate getting new people here–especially those that say flattering things. Recovery does rock, by the way.
